• 51. Ensure protection of forests, also in the context of climate change
  • Excerpt from government statement

  • Protection and sustainable management of forests

In collaboration with private forest owners and environmental organisations, the government will step up its efforts to preserve forests and adapt them to climate change in order to ensure that our forests can continue to fulfil their essential functions as habitats, carbon storage, timber supply and recreational areas.

The Government will analyse the Forest Act from the point of view of practicability. The aim is to guarantee effective protection of the forests and to ensure sustainable economic exploitation while respecting the property rights of private foresters. Local use of wood from the forests will be favoured over export to foreign countries.
