In order to compensate for the variability of renewable energies in the electricity grid, the Government will launch pilot projects in the field of electricity storage at national level. At the same time, the introduction of subsidies for local storage devices for citizens will also be studied. As part of this, the Government will ensure that, as far as possible, electric car batteries can also be integrated into the electricity grid as storage devices.

Pre-financing for PV systems with battery storage has been implemented. The government has presented a national storage strategy designed to shape the use of battery storage in the context of the energy transition. However, important data and aspects (time frame, financing, operators of large-scale storage facilities) are missing, and the strategy is based solely on the storage of electricity in batteries, ignoring other technologies. A more in-depth discussion of the strategy has not yet taken place.
Initial pilot projects, such as the promotion of batteries in companies as part of a ‘call for projects’, were implemented in autumn 2025.
