70. Promotion of local products, including in public canteens – review the certification system for local products
-
Excerpt from government statement
-
Luxembourg agriculture provides high-quality local products that are generally also more environmentally friendly due to shorter transport distances. The Government is committed to making greater use of local, seasonal and regional products, particularly in schools, care homes, crèches, hospitals and retirement and nursing homes. The relevant legislation will be amended if, after analysis, this proves necessary.
The Government will evaluate the national quality and certification system for agricultural products set up during the last legislature and adapt it if necessary.

Status of implementation/Meco commentary

The Ministry of Education is consistently pushing ahead with its efforts with ‘Supply4Future’ from Restopolis. The ‘Natur genéissen’ project, which is also supported by the Ministry of the Environment and local authorities, is also worth highlighting. Unfortunately, there is no concrete information available regarding the Ministry of Agriculture’s engagement in this area. Although four pilot projects are being carried out, these are not powerful enough to represent the first phase of implementing the coalition agreement’s requirements. This is also because it is not publicly known whether work is being done on evaluating the national certification system, for example.
