Despite alarming findings in studies on pesticide residues in hair analyses of children (LIH 2022) and on the exposure of bees and insects (BEEFIRST and INSIGNIA projects), often involving unauthorised active substances, no comprehensive, consistent measures are known to have been taken to decisively address the causes. The only positive development is that the agricultural support programme ‘Eco-Regulation 514: Renunciation of Plant Protection Products’ was much more widely accepted in 2024 than its predecessor programme in previous years, according to a study on biodiversity-promoting measures in agriculture commissioned by Mouvement Ecologique 2025. Another welcome development is the ban on the pesticide active ingredient ‘flufanecet’, which is known to break down into the persistent ‘forever’ chemical TFA.
